Hurricane Michael is Forecast to be a “Dangerous Major Hurricane”

Oct 8, 2018

CNN reports that Hurricane Michael is forecast to be a “dangerous major hurricane” when it hits the US Gulf Coast on Wednesday.

This forecast by the National Hurricane Center indicates that Michael may be a Category 3 hurricane — with winds from 111 to 129 mph — when it arrives.
“Life-threatening storm surge is possible along portions of the Florida Gulf Coast regardless of the storm’s exact track or intensity,” the center said. “Well-built framed homes may incur major damage or removal of roof decking and gable ends. Many trees will be snapped or uprooted, blocking numerous roads. Electricity and water will be unavailable for several days to weeks after the storm passes.” For the full story click here.

Remember, before any storm approaches there are reasonable steps you can take before a hurricane:

  • Take “before” pictures to aid in any insurance claims.
  • Protect areas of your home where wind can enter.
  • Secure your windows and doors with either County- approved storm shutters or with 5/8-inch plywood.
  • Prune your trees and shrubs

Have your Denial or Underpayment Letter and Your Policy Immediately Reviewed By an Attorney Who Specializes in Insurance Law

It is extremely important to fully understand the scope of your policy’s coverage. An attorney knowledgeable in insurance law is best equipped to review the terms of the policy along with the denial or partial denial letter from your insurance company to determine how best to address why the insurance company is not giving you the compensation that you are entitled to under your insurance policy..

Even if the letter from the insurance company reflects their agreement to pay for part of your claim, the attorney reviewing your policy and the partial denial letter, may determine that you still have recourse against the insurance company for the balance of what is really owed to you. If your insurance policy was destroyed in the storm, fire, etc., don’t worry, the attorney can request a copy from the insurance company.
